Sail away on a five day voyage dedicated specifically for Scouts Aotearoa and Girl Guiding NZ.
Now an annual event, the Advanced Training in Leadership at Sea (ATL@S) voyage has been designed for senior Scouts, new Venturers, and Rangers aged 14-16 years from throughout NZ to experience life on the sea, to explore new challenges of leadership, team work and personal development.
The 2023 Voyage took place mid April. You can check out photos from their adventure on their Facebook page.
19 young people from across New Zealand sailed and kayaked around various islands in the Hauraki Gulf and practiced their new seamanship knowledge and leadership skills as part of the ATL@S National School
Thanks to the amazing crew and our partners The New Zealand Sailing Trust and Auckland Sea Kayaks
Here’s what some of the past trainees have to say about their time on-board:
“It was great! An interesting challenge that I really enjoyed. It was well worth attending. It’s given me confidence participating in the adventure of it all. It was great to meet a bunch of random Scouts and Rangers from around NZ and has given me more hands on sailing experience. When can I go again …?”
“I came home absolutely buzzing from ATL@S. What an amazing trip!!!! Apparently all I’ve done is talk about it ever since and ask about doing the ten day voyage”
“I enjoyed it so much and I learned a lot about leadership and boating. It was something really different and a once in a lifetime adventure. I really enjoyed meeting all the great scouts, leaders and crew and made some great friends and memories. I have already put some of my new leadership skills into practice.”
Applications: Will open in term four 2023
