From the 17th – 23rd January Canoe School was in action. 18 Scouts and Venturers left their technology behind them and set out to canoe the Whanganui river. After spending some time getting prepared, they paddled 145 km over 5 days in weather that ranged from uncomfortably wet through to bright sunshine and everything in between. The journey was a real challenge, putting their scout skills to the test!
They heard kiwi calling outside their tents at night, saw native bats, and experienced some of the history of the river. This is Scouting at its best. Adventure, challenge, teamwork, overcoming difficulties. Thanks to Whanganui River Canoes and to 1st Matapuna Scout Group in Taumarunui.
