The announcement yesterday by the Prime Minister stating that indoor gatherings can include up to 100 people means that we can resume face to face Scouting while at Alert Level 2.

We can confirm that Face to Face Scouting at a community level will resume, on a volunteer basis, from 4 pm on 1 June 2020.

As our Leaders are volunteers we appreciate that they, alongside the rest of New Zealand, are facing difficult challenges at the moment. For this reason, we have recommended to our Leaders that they restart their Groups when they are comfortable doing so after 1 June 2020.

For some Groups, this may mean an immediate start, for others a restart may take a little longer. We greatly appreciate your support and understanding if there is any delay.

Alert Level 2 is not a return to normal and as such a number of additional steps will be required to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of our members during this period. Groups are putting extra measures in place to manage contact tracing, hygiene, and cleaning.

Details of your group’s restart will be communicated directly to you by your Group or Section Leader.

The safety and the wellbeing of our young people and volunteers remains paramount.  We strongly advise those:

  • over 70
  • with a compromised immune system
  • with underlying health conditions
  • living with vulnerable people

to continue digital participation in SCOUTS and avoid participation in face to face Scouting until Alert Level 1.  If your young person is unable to attend Scouting, please let your Section or Group leader know so we can make arrangements to support them until we move to Alert Level 1.

If your young person is showing any symptoms, such as temperature, runny nose, continual coughing, please keep them at home.

Thank you for your patience and support over the past few months. Our focus has been to provide a sense of continuity, connection, and community to your young people over the past eight weeks via digital scouting.

Like you, we are extremely excited to see our young people back in their local group enjoying Scouting and all the benefit it offers.
